Pastor Melvin Brooks was born August 24, 1954 in the Delta of Mississippi. He is the youngest son of Ethel Mae, and the late Willie Ed Brooks. It was in the state of Mississippi that he received his elementary education. As a small child it was quite evident to him and others that he would someday be preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His boyhood pastor, (Rev. C. L. Logan) always referred to him as preacher. After the death of his father, his mother thought it was best for them to relocate to Chicago, IL to join other family members. Pastor Brooks is a 1972 graduate of the George Westinghouse Area Vocational High School in Chicago IL. He also has credentials from Northeastern University, Moody Bible Institute, and New Life Bible College. Pastor Brooks received his Masters of Religion on May 28, 2000 from the Tennessee School of Religion. He also received an additional Master’s in Pastoral Ministries through correspondent study from Chelsea University in 2004. Pastor Brooks was a special education teacher with the Bellwood, Illinois School System. Although ordained a Deacon at the young age of 16, he knew that God had a special calling on His life. It was in February of 1975, after much prayer he adhered to the call of preaching God’s Word. In the year 1980, on his 26th birthday, he organized and Pastored the Center of love Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. Pastor Brooks remained steadfast and faithful there for 20 years. After having learned many valuable lessons about life and ministry, and also feeling the inner nudge of the Holy Spirit, his experience at The Center of Love Baptist Church prepared him for further elevation from God.
In February of 2000, Pastor Brooks in his obedience to God relocated to Buffalo, New York where he accepted the call to Pastor the flock at Cedar Grove Baptist Church. It is proper to say, that under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Brooks tore down and rebuilt a church within a church that had been in existence for 45 years. Under his leadership, numerous accomplishments have been made. Many of the members have had life-changing experiences. The life changing experiences led to an addition to the name of the church; the once Cedar Grove Baptist Church is now known as “The New Cedar Grove Life Changing Church. Many structural changes have also been made. Under Pastor Brooks’ leadership, his Bible-based teaching has made a tremendous difference in that the church is flourishing financially, and the members have developed a never-ending thirst for the Word of God. Through his own personal testimony of being healed, he has been instrumental in teaching members about trusting and believing God’s Word.
In addition to enhancing the knowledge of members through Christian Education, winning the lost is paramount at the New Cedar Grove Life Changing Church. Pastor Brooks is a man with a vision. In November of 2010, New Cedar Grove Life Changing Church purchased a 6 acre campus in a nearby suburb (Cheektowaga). The campus is equipped with several amenities which enhances the vision and dream of Pastor Brooks. Not only has he been a Pastor for 36 years, his involvement include serving as National Evangelist for over 30 years. He has served locally, statewide and also on a national level.
